Company Terms & Conditions 2025

 

By accepting our quotation or estimate by email you abide to these terms and conditions set out by J.Shaw Electrical Engineers Ltd.

  1. Installation Work:
  2. a) All electrical installation work will comply with BS7671: 2022 18th Edition Wiring Regulations latest amendment and any amendments in force at the time of the works.
  3. b) All electrical installation work will comply with applicable Building Regulations in force at the time of the work.
  4. c) Where work is to extend or modify existing circuits, costs quoted assume that the existing installation is in adequate condition and complies with minimum current regulations. Any work found required to bring the necessary parts of the existing installation up to standard will be at additional cost.
  5. d) Unless stated otherwise, all cables will be concealed by chasing into the building fabric or concealed in building voids, under floors, etc. Where impracticable, cabling will be neatly surface run, either clipping direct or housed in trunking / conduit.
  6. e) Where carpet or flooring coverings may require lifting to allow concealed installation work, no charge is made for this service, with best endeavour's being made to avoid damaging them and to refit them to an acceptable standard. However, the consideration of employing a specialist fitter may be prudent, at your cost, to affect a fully satisfactory reinstatement.
  7. f) All endeavour's will be made to undertake installation work to a clean standard, using dustsheets and vacuum cleaning equipment as necessary.
  8. g) The contract outlines the expected duration of the installation work.
  9. h) Whilst undertaking the installation work at the property, the client is required to provide water and power free of charge if required during work.

 

  1. Exclusions:
  2. a) Clearing and / or moving of furniture and other items blocking access to work areas are not included.
  3. b) Except where detailed, builders work (creating holes larger than 50mm diameter, creating of support structures, etc) are not included.
  4. c) Re-decoration, plastering, filling in and final making good is excluded from quoted costs, unless specifically detailed as included.
  5. d) Removal from site and disposal of rubble, fittings, wiring, materials, general waste, and packaging is not included.

 

  1. Extras and Variations:
  2. a) All extras and variations must be agreed in writing prior to commencement.
  3. b) Where a consumer unit is being upgraded and the client does not wish to have an electrical installation condition report carried out before hand, if issues arise such as nuisance tripping when new circuits are energized on RCD’s or RCBO’s this will attract an hourly fault-finding charge of £59.00+VAT per electrician in all instances.

 

  1. c) J.Shaw Electrical Engineers Ltd will always insist on an electrical installation condition report being carried out prior to a consumer unit /distribution board upgrade is started, during an EICR issues may be found that are dangerous or none compliant to the latest electrical regulations, these remedial works are quoted separately from the cost of an EICR or consumer unit upgrade.

 

  1. Pricing:
  2. a) The costs quoted assume continuous and unhindered access to the site by prior arrangement with you.
  3. b) Unless stated otherwise, the costs quoted assume standard working hours between the hours of 08:00 hrs - 16:30 hrs Monday to Friday inclusive. Work required outside these hours may attract out of hours premium rates.
  4. c) Any additional work not covered in our quoted costs will attract an additional time charge rate of £59.00+VAT per hour, per electrician, plus materials costs.
  5. d) As a VAT registered business, all works carried out will be subject to VAT.
  6. e) All figures quoted are valid for a date of 14 days from the date of the estimate or quotation.

 

  1. Deviations from Building Regulations and BS7671:
  2. a) All work where applicable will be executed fully in compliance with applicable Building Regulations and BS7671 in force at the time of the work, particularly in respect of work in dwellings to allow the legal Part P obligations to be met. Where a client requires deviation from such regulations, a written instruction and record will be required.

 

  1. Risk and Title of Goods and Property:
  2. a) The risk in all goods supplied shall pass to the Client upon delivery.
  3. b) All goods supplied shall remain property of J.Shaw Electrical Engineers Ltd until all sums due have been paid in full.
  4. c) The client is responsible for ensuring that the property is insured for the duration of the installation work.

 

  1. Warranty:
  2. a) Shaw Electrical Engineers Ltd warrants its installation work to be defect free for a period of 12 months from invoice date. Such cover does not extend to goods not supplied by J.Shaw Electrical Engineers Ltd, physical damage to products, or any instance where the original installation has been altered or tampered with subsequently by third parties.

 

  1. b) All outdoor lighting installations are covered for a period of 12 months only from installation date regardless of warranty provided by manufacturers, this includes security floodlights.

 

 

  1. Payment:
  2. a) Unless agreed in writing payment in full must be made on completion of the specified works to J.Shaw Electrical Engineers Ltd. Commercial and Industrial works are invoiced at 30 days as documented on the quotation/estimate sent to the client, all invoices must be settled within 30 days of invoice issued.
  3. b) Stage payments will be requested by prior arrangement where planned works take longer than 30 days. We reserve the right to request from you stage payments in the instance where works take longer than 30 days.
  4. c) Payment terms for domestic and residential electrical work are payment within 24 hours of the invoice issued.

Late invoices will be resolved peacefully, if a resolution cannot be made J.Shaw Electrical Engineers Ltd will proceed with retrieving payment via appointed debt collection contractor or county court judgement.

  1. d) Electrical Installation Certificates and Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR’s) will be sent by email after the final balance of invoice has been paid in all instances.

 

 

  1. Dispute Resolution:
  2. a) In the event of a dispute, mediation is to be the preferred method of resolution.

 

  1. Cancellations:
  2. a) Cancellations made by the customer within 12 hours of scheduled work will be billed at £100+VAT to account for lost working time and administration costs.
  3. b) If when we attend scheduled appointments and there’s nobody home then a bill of £100+VAT to account for lost working time and administration costs is applied.
